He was the epitome of a noble warrior king, except in power armor and with high tech weaponry. There's a ton of fluff from the various editions and Codices, but this page is a very good springboard for further research:ġ) A powerful, charistmatic, wise, and just ruler, not just in image but in fact. Plus, humanity was conquering worlds then, rather than losing them, and so the Imperium has lost countless worlds and the resources on them. It was just more efficient, better understood, and better maintained. That said, I'm pretty sure Hive and Factory worlds still existed hyper-production drove the Imperium then same as ten thousand years later. If nothing else, the Imperium was still innovative. Equally possible is that Psykers were better monitored, treated, and trained in 30k, and the problems the Imperium has in 40k has more to do with declining education and therapy than anything supernatural.ĥ) Yes. Either way, I've always gotten the impression that threats like the Enslavers and Daemons were less of a deal before the Heresy, and so there was less reason to control Psykers. Maybe the Emperor was able to better keep Chaos and Warp threats in checks while still active, maybe the Immaterium was simply more detached from the material universe at the time (which might help justify reduced actions by the Dark Eldar?), or maybe Geller fields were -really- common and powerful back then and entire planets were effectively protected. Sure there were orks and Chaos and Eldar, but the Necrons and Tyranids were unknowns and humanity had organization and technology beyond what they possess in 40k.Ĥ) I'm guessing closely, but not to the same extent as now. Political dissent was just that though, and not considered heresy.ģ) Before the Heresy, the galaxy was a lot safer for mankind. Personally, I figure he was still the ultimate pragmatist, but not infallible.Ģ) He was the Emperor! Which is different from being the God-Emperor of course, but still a personage of great respect, power, and influence. 1) Depending on your source, he was either off making the occassional Illuminati, or else focusing his urges on creating Adeptus Astartes.
